Man United and Porto End in Thrilling 3-3 Draw

Harry Maguire’s 91st-minute header secured a dramatic 3-3 draw for Manchester United against Porto on Thursday at Estadio do Dragao.

Manchester United started strong, with Marcus Rashford opening the scoring in the seventh minute after a left-side drive and swift finish past Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Rasmus Hojlund, making his first start of the season, doubled United’s lead in the 20th minute with a well-executed counter-attack.

However, Porto responded vigorously. Joao Mario’s cross deflected off a United defender, allowing Brazilian winger Pepe to head the ball home. Samu Omorodian then equalized with a header from another Mario cross. After the break, Omorodian scored again, taking advantage as Pepe carved open United’s defense.

Just as it seemed Porto would claim the win, substitute Harry Maguire soared to meet Christian Eriksen’s corner, nodding in the crucial equalizer in injury time.

Manchester United will next face Turkish side Fenerbahçe SK on October 25.

Lyon Cruise to 4-1 Victory Over Rangers

Buoyed by an exceptional display from Malick Fofana, Lyon secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Rangers, marking their second triumph of the season. Rangers, however, could not replicate their strong Europa League 2024/25 opener against Malmo from a couple of weeks earlier.

Fofana initiated the scoring for Lyon with a stunning shot into the right corner in the 10th minute. The lead was short-lived, as Tom Lawrence of Rangers netted an equalizer just four minutes later, finishing from a clever by Cyriel Dessers.

The rest of the match was dominated by Lyon, who controlled possession and peppered the goal with shots. Their second goal came quickly after a poorly executed back by Connor Barron, which Fofana intercepted and ed to Alexandre Lacazette for a straightforward finish.

In the second half, Fofana added another goal with an easy tap-in, bringing Lyon’s total to four. The scoreline could have been even more lopsided if not for some missed opportunities.

Rangers will likely reflect on multiple areas needing improvement, particularly in defense, as they prepare to face stronger European opponents. A tactical shift might be necessary to prevent similar breakdowns.

The Scottish side will get a chance at redemption on October 25th, when they face Romanian team FSCB. On the other hand, Lyon will aim to maintain their dominant form against Beşiktaş J.K. on October 24.
